I'm more of a 10 crabs per person kinda gal myself! I love crabs, which I never tried before moving here to MD. Our very first dinner here - invited to a "barbeque" (read crab party) by L's new boss - I was at first horrified, then pleasantly supplied by the ritual. Now I love them. For some reason out-of-towners just don't get it - our family thinks they're either gross or too much work or both. Oh well, more for me!

6 crabs per person? Sounds like a party to me. Haven't had properly done crabs in a while and I really should pick up some lively crabs at the local Vietnamese groceries.

Being from the mid-atlantic, we are so lucky to be able to throw a piece of chicken on a string over the dock at the bay and, an hour later, have 20 blue claws. BUT, next time we go crabbing, I'm making that dipping sauce for it! we usually just do butter or oldbay mixed w/ white vinegar to dip.

I absolutely adore shellfish but have never cooked it at home - there's something about it that frightens me a bit! This looks beautiful and I take my hat off to you for all that shelling you must've done!

The only seafood I ate growing up was deep fried shrimp. I think I couldn't really taste the shrimp, just the fried batter breading. Now I can't get enough seafood. If I could eat it every day, I would. Oh to have a table of those crabs for dinner tonight would be amazing. We are having leftover ribs.

okay, mike... i have always liked your blog but i am now in live! i am a balmer, merlin girl at heart and grew up going to OC! in fact, i was there last weekend, and am going again! crabs are pretty much my favorite thing ever, although the husband and i always stop somewhere around easton at a stand i like and pick up some live ones. nothing better than throwing some natty bo, rock salt and old bay in a pot and steaming them up fresh (although your broth looks good, too!)! it is just pure summer. I absolutely just love this post and am kicking myself from ever having moved from Baltimore to Arlington. VA just doesn't know how to do crabs.
