I often make this dish with butternut squash instead of the pie pumpkins. They are cheaper, easier to find, and easier to work with... still tastes wonderful!

I ate at a Afghan resturant in San Mateo CA., and we had a Pumpkin Dish made with honey similar to mashed potatoes and it was great and am trying to get the name of the dish and how to make it. Can you help me?

You had it at The Helmand in Baltimore on Charles Street about a mile from the water. Owned by the same guy who owns the restaurant in Boston and San Francisco, which is where this recipe came from.

And it is delicious. Thanks for digging this up Mike and sharing. I moved from Baltimore two years ago to a city with no Afghan food, and I dream of certain dishes...this one included. And those delightfully delicate little ravioli with the leeks.

I could cry!
